Taylorsville, Utah Temple - Original Mixed-Media Art on Stretched Canvas
Taylorsville Utah Temple grew out of my love for temples and the different ways their architecture interacts with the landscape around them. Temples always capture my attention, but this one presented an interesting challenge. Because it's relatively new, it doesn’t yet have the large, mature trees that frame many other temples.
As I walked around the grounds, I began paying more attention to the lower vegetation, particularly the flowers around the temple. I found a vantage point close to the ground that allowed me to use the garden itself to frame the building. From this perspective, the flowers and broad leaves rise into the composition and draw the eye upward toward the temple and its spire.
In this finished piece, I pushed the color and texture of the garden and sky while allowing the lighter stone of the temple to stand at the center. The deep foliage and brilliant red flowers create a strong foreground, while the movement of the blue and white sky gives the temple a sense of openness and space.
This artwork is offered as a variable open edition canvas, individually hand-embellished and completed by the artist.
